As a freelance photographer, editorial and advertising work has filled up most of his time, contributing to likes of Climbing, Couloir, and Shape Magazine or working with clients such as Eastern Mountain Sports, New Hampshire Department of Travel and Tourism and Wild Things. Joe has spent years randomly traveling, Chamonix, Yosemite, Newfoundland but his favorite places are in his backyard, North Conway, NH. Living in White Mountains makes it easy for him to get at great locations in the North East.
After developing his unique style in the mountains and wild places of New Hampshire, Joe refined his skills at the International Center of Photography in New York City. Starting out primarily in adventure sports and landscapes Joe's style has evolved into something more subtle than in your face sports photography. "To me it's much more important to get a sense of the moment and place, I love to use the fragility of the human form when put into a hostile environment." By using ultra-wide angles Joe gives his images a sense of scale and vastness. On other projects he uses deep shadows and light to create mood or accentuate subjects.
Currently Joe is exploring more multimedia ideas by producing slide shows incorporating music, or narrative with photos Check the latest ones out...on the menu under Multimedia.
