Kinetic - Snow kiting

Twenty degrees, sunshine, 9 to 15 mph winds and a fresh coating of snow is the perfect combination for a day of snowkiting. On frozen Lake Chocurua in New Hampshire, Zeb and Shahab battled big gusts and white-outs to be rewarded with a few choice runs back and forth across the lake.

Sepia Project - Hand Tools

Old "yankee" tools and techniques are being used to create a Great Room for the Tin Mountain Conservation Center. The carpenters are using timbers harvested either from the site or locally.

Sepia Project - Wildfowl Carver

That's right wildfowl carver. Fred Dolan has created the most precise and poetic forms of birds, shaping them from raw wood into almost breathing masterpieces.

I was lucky enough to be hunkered down in his barn studio during a huge December snowstorm while he worked on some fine details of a preening swan for under the Christmas tree.
