Spring Skiing - Tuckerman's Ravine

Sunshine and warm days, a perfect combination for Spring skiing on Mt. Washington. I was shooting up on Pinnacle Buttress in Huntington's Ravine. Instead of hiking down the all to common Lion's Head Trail we headed down "Right Gully" on our bottoms, sure it's not as glamorous as skiing but it's a hell of a lot quicker than hiking!

Kinetic - "Survival Skiing"

One maybe two inches of wind-packed breakable crust, sounds like a dream doesn't it?
Just up the hill from town there's an open slab of granite, and trees that are usually great skiing before the hot sunny days of Spring arrive. Not so much on this day, Brian may make it look easy, but you should have seen us earlier....and later in the woods, it was like a bobsled run with trees in it.

Kinetic -Mt.Washington Avalanche Center

8-10 inches of fresh snow, and only 2-4 were in the forecast. Wrong again weatherman! Typical for New England. The rangers based at Hermit Lake are getting prepared for the onslaught of spring skiers. This spring everything from garbage bags to levi's will be sliding down somewhere in Tuckerman's Ravine. Hopefully no big piles of snow.
